What she needs is a miracle. What she gets is a genie with rules.

Lacey Linden has gotten good at hiding the truth of her life—a depressed mom, a crumbling house, and bills too big to pay. In school, she’s a girl with a ready smile and good grades, but at night, Lacey spends her time dreaming up ways to save her family. On a get-cash-quick trip to the flea market, Lacey stumbles over a music box that seemingly begs her to take it home. She does, only to find that it’s inhabited by a gorgeous “genie.” He offers her a month of wishes, one per day, but there’s a catch. Each wish must be humanly possible.

Grant belongs to a league of supernatural beings, dedicated to serving humans in need. After two years of fulfilling conventional wishes, he’s one assignment away from promotion to a new job with more challenging cases. His month with Lacey is exactly what he expects and nothing like he imagines. Lacey and Grant soon discover that the hardest task of all might be saying goodbye.

Free astronomy book that is accessible to all!

A good friend of mine, Willie the Seeing Eye Dog, has written a great blog post about a cool new textbook on astronomy. This e-book, Reach for the Stars, is *free* from Apple iStore and bristles with gorgeous images from the Hubble telescope (enhanced by amazing new digital technologies).

Want to know what's even better? The scientific content is completely accessible to children of all abilities. Visually impaired students can love this book as much as their classmates.

Here are the types of people that I think will enjoy this book.

• Students who are visually impaired
• Kids of all abilities, especially in grades 4-6, who enjoy astronomy
• Science teachers
• Anyone with a fascination for the stars!
• Authors who are curious about the amazing technologies that can enhance a digital book

Please share the link to Willie's blog with students, science enthusiasts (of all ages), as well as families and teachers of the visually impaired. (You must have an iPad to download this free book.)

And check out this video. (Willie has it embedded in his blog too.)

Giveaway warning and countdown to A WHISPER IN TIME

The second book in the Whisper Falls trilogy is almost here. A Whisper In Time releases in 39 days!

With that in mind, I'm about to give away several copies of Whisper Falls (Book 1).

Let me make a quick comment about this trilogy.  My editors and I have tried hard to make it possible for someone to read the second book without reading the first. Most major plot twists from Book 1 get a sentence or two explanation in the sequel. So I don't think readers will be confused if they start with Book 2. (And, in fact, we asked a beta reader who had not read Book 1 to help us with that.)

However, I think it is best to read Whisper Falls before reading A Whisper In Time. The entire cast of characters is back. I build on the plot points. Even though there are no cliff-hangers in the first book, there were a handful of loose ends—little things you might be curious about.  Those loose ends become big problems in book 2.  Some of them are tied up, and some you'll have to wait until book 3 to see how they're resolved.

So stay tuned between now and the middle of March. I'll be giving away Whisper Falls in paperback (USA only) on Goodreads and as e-books through my blog.

end of January catch up

I had an author event planned tonight, but it has been postponed due to the "snow event" in the southern part of the US. Lady Jane's Salon - RDU will now be held on February 26th. I'll be joining the lovely and talented Sabrina Jeffries and D.B. Starler.

This photo is the view from my deck. Plenty of Carolina blue sky!

I had ordered a box of Whisper Falls from my publishing house for giveaways and such.  It arrived yesterday, unbeknownst to me. When I went outside last night to check on the snow falling, there waited the box on my front porch. I am happy to say that the books were all rescued in pristine shape.

More news...

• There is still time to enter the Free Book Friday giveaway. Five signed trade paperbacks will be awarded on Friday.
• Amazon still has the e-book version of Whisper Falls listed for $2.99.
• 10 weeks and counting down until A Whisper In Time releases!

The driveway is shoveled now. It will soon be time to attempt the drive to my day job. Wish me luck!
